Here is a few tips to use when looking over your cv.
- Focus on specific skills you have to offer and use examples in your previous work history to explain your
skills and duties in more detail using results, acheivements and other examples.
- Forget a cover page, make sure you really work on your the first page of your resume as this is the one that
the HR manager wants to quickly see that you are the right person for the job.
- When you save your resume, save it with your name and "Resume" as the end. HR managers get 1000 of resumes
named "Me" example me.doc. Well this is going to make it really easy for them to loose your application!
- Put less attention to adding general characteristics that alot of people add to there resume. e.g great
communication skills, excellent leadship skills. Most old resumes do this and HR managers don't look at this as
everyone is doing it. Put the focus onto your unique selling points and explain in depth and with examples. E.g 10
years driving Double B's, or started as labourer and progressed to foreman leading 10 other workers, or working 10
hr days cleaning motels for 19 years.
